Many permaculturist know the down right practical benefits of Hügelkultur. I have personally modified the technique into raised sheet mulched garden beds which I highly recommend for zone 1 gardens. But here I want to point out what is probably the origins Hügelkultur.
Ashley Johnson (a student here at the School of Permaculture) came to me recently, after viewing the original “Growing a Forest From a Forest” video, and had beautiful images of trees growing out of the stumps and fallen logs of other trees. Now it is no mystery that many permaculture techniques are indigenous and biomimic nature, but these photos are remarkable when you know what you are looking at and support a technique mentioned in “Growing a Forest From a Forest – Part 1“.
